20th Anniversary Celebration

On Wednesday 11th May, ANME hosted a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Museum. Members and guests enjoyed a number of speeches by the Chair of the Management Board, Prof Barbara Pamphilon, and the Director, Dr Malcolm Beazley, AM and Dr Geoffrey Burkhardt, Senior Curator. Light refreshments were followed by a visit to Building Five and a viewing of the anniversary displays and the Museum’s collections.

 

 

Heritage Festival 20th Anniversary Exhibition

As part of the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival, the Australian National Museum of Education at the University of Canberra is reflecting upon 20 years of service to educational heritage.

This is an opportunity to see highlights from a leading Australian  educational history  collection, as it showcases examples of educational policy, curriculum and practice.

The exhibition is open from 4 – 20 April,  with the exception of the weekend of 9-10 April.

Open Day: Music in Schools 1880-1990

A display Music in Schools 1880 -1980 will be a highlight of Open Day at the University of Canberra on 29 August 2015.

This exhibition presents a selection of pedagogical methods, instruments and curriculum resources used in Australian schools and pre-service teacher education institutions, including syllabuses, music books, scores, school anthems, choir music, L.P. records, a small selection of musical instruments and related ephemera used in school music classes from Kindergarten to senior high school.

Visitors to the Building 5 Level A Gallery will be able to view the permanent displays and have a tour of the collection. Curators will be in attendance to answer questions.

Details: This exhibition is not a chronological sequence of educational events in the ACT. The exhibition seeks to illustrate aspects of schooling in Canberra 1913-2013 through five categories of examples: published histories of a variety of Canberra schools; aspects of classroom practice; school administration in Canberra; technology in schools and selected varieties of ephemera illustrating school events and functions.
