Schools, Students and World War I
To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, the Australian National Museum of Education in August mounted a commemorative display, offering insights into the ways in which schools and State Departments of Education responded to the War.
The display aimed to reflect the ways in which Australian schools reacted to events as they were progressively revealed to the Australian public, exhibiting publications and pictorial material, artefacts and school ephemera from the time. It throws light on the social and political influences on the awareness of the War among students, families and schools.
Now, the ANME is making the exhibition available as a virtual display.
